When Iowa Pacific Holdings started to unravel in 2019, the Parsons Vale purchased the Massachusetts Coastal Railroad out of receivership to operate as an extension of the South Loren Railway.
When the SLR reorganized the MCR, they renamed it to the Old Colony Railway to go along with their Old Colony branch into Rhode Island; it was an almost pure-EMD road prior to the takeover, but – aside from a pair of EMD FL9s that are used in Cape Cod excursion service – those locomotives were immediately sold and replaced with a mix of class DL13 & DL16 units that had been displaced from the D&H by newer ILW power.
In 2020, the Old Colony started a project to electrify all of their SE Mass railway lines, and by 2025 the entire system – modulo the North Falmouth to Falmouth branch – had been electrified
- In 2020, wires went up from Taunton Junction to the Tremont resource recovery facility
- In 2021 the wires were extended from Tremont to Buzzards Bay
- 2022 saw the electrification of the Cape Cod line from Buzzards Bay to Yarmount & Hyannis
- The southern Mass branches (the lines from East Taunton to Fall River & New Bedford) were electrified in 2023 in parallel with talks with the MBTA about electrifying the (original) Old Colony’s Middleborough Main Line.
- In 2024, the line from Buzzards bay down to Mashpee (in and immediately south of the Cape Cod joint military base) were electrified
- And finally, in 2025, after acquiring the freight rights on the Middleborough Main Line, wires went up on it from Middleborough up to South Station (the MBTA, however, did not order motors from ILW, but instead purchased a brace of Wabtec MP54AC-alike motors to pull the passenger trains.)
