The class DL13 are a handful of D&H C-424s that were rebuilt at GE Hornel with newer (and lower horsepower) 251s. Originally there were 9, but 3 of them were Genesee & Wyoming units purchased for runthrough salt trains, and they went back to the G&W in 1985, and one – alas – was wrecked before the PV&T merger.
Ottawa Central’s solitary (and unmodified) C-424 is in class DL13b
Finally, the OSW merger brought in another 6 DL13bs, bringing the class up to an even dozen.
They are all in service on D&H west, the OSW’s Owen Sound division, the L&ST, and the OC.
4 of the 5 D&H DL13s were rebuilt with a new AC drivetrain and Cummins QSK60 prime movers prior to the start of the CTRC project/D&H electrification, and have now moved to various other railways in the Parsons Vale system as the wires went up.
The DL13 class also encompasses Alco’s C-425 locomotives; unmodified ones would be in class DL13c, except that they have all been remanufactured in the same manner as the 4 D&H units.
