One of the DLP's remanufactured EMD FP7s in VIA(ish) paint

The Chemin de fer terminal de Montréal’s Diesel Locomotive Pool was formed to maintain a power pool for unelectrified lines when the LT&L bought a handful of Bombardier HR-412 locomotives after the Canadian National hot potatoed these unreliable things out the door. These new units, plus a handful of Alcos that were newly out of a job as electrification proceeded on D&H South, went into a locomotive pool, soon to be joined by what seems to be a neverending stream of GP38s (et al) from newly purchased railroads.

As of 2022, the DLP has all of the original 10 HR-412’s on its roster, 7 FPA-4s, 2 FPB-4s, 4 RS-2s, 2 RS-3s, 2 RS-11s, a dozen C-425s & M-420s, two F750s, a dozen M-630 & M-636s, another 7 centuries that are being stripped for parts before an eventual rebuild to ILWC-644"s, a large collection of ILW’s RS-38 (remanufactured GP38 & GP38-2s) and then something on the order of 180 EMDs of one sort or another. Originally, around half of these units were leased back to various subsidiaries of the Parsons Vale, but by 2025 most of them were returned from lease and are now, like the rest of the DLP’s roster, either leased to other railroads, in storage, or being remanufactured into more modern units.

Initially, the DLP’s locomotive pool was stored at the TdM shops, but as their pile of EMDs started to grow the DLP purchased the (newly acquired, but unused) LT&L’s ex-CAR yard in Sherbrooke, PQ as their locomotive warehouse.
