After class F #454 was scrapped, the electrical components were handed over to the Portland shops for reuse, and the reuse was this locomotive. It’s just a 5600 HP 3-truck steeplecab (about as big as the class K locomotives that preceded it) except that it’s – at least according to the PV&T’s power roadmap – the last motor delivered with DC traction motors.
Maybe that’s why it came out of the paintshop in a full Montreal Terminal post-war Empire Builder-alike livery? The end of 85 years of DC drivetrained locomotives is worth a celebration.
(5600 HP, just like the E60CP/DC it got the drivetrain from, and ~160 tons soaking wet.)
