In 2026, the LT&L ordered 30 road-switcher diesel-only versions of ILWs eco-670f streamlined genset locomotives to handle freight on their newly-acquired CPR lines east of Toronto. These units are considerably heavier and slower than the streamlined units, because that’s what the other North American class 1 railways preferred, so they are restricted to the more heavily trafficked mainlines on the system, and are intended to be pushed west and south when the LT&L (eventually) electrifies into Toronto.
These units use paired Cummins QSK78s to produce up to 7000HP, have an AC drivetrain, and ILW’s new Vista cab. Moat of the LT&L’s orders were delivered in LT&L tricolour, but #1775 & #1776 were delivered in an LT&L designed special paint scheme celebrating the merger with CPKC.
#1776 was the first to be delivered in June of 2026, with the rest over the next two months.
