Twelve of the powerful locomotives that were to be delivered to the U.S.S.R. during the late forties but that were embargoed by the U.S. government, known in Brazil as Russas (Russians), were sold to The Milwaukee Road. The original project, designed to work with 3,300 volts, C.A., was modified to 3,000 volts, C.A. They were in active service in that railroad until the seventies. Sometimes they were used together with other diesel-electric locomotives to haul heavy freight trains. The copy of this photo is courtesy of Marcello Talamo, from São Paulo SP.
