In April 14, 1989, after 14 years of construction, both construction fronts of Ferrovia do Aço finally met at km 138 + 965 m, Madre Deus (MG). The railroad was somewhat downgraded comparing to the proposed specifications, as it has only one line and uses diesel-electric locos, but at least it is ready to work.
